| Bio: |  How much of our lives do we pare down to write a short introduction to a world that often doesn't want to know more than the superficial anyway? Too much. But, alas, a detailed life story scares people off and a single sentence written in the third person sounds pretentious. In an attempt to find a balance between these two extremes, here are the basics about me: I'm April, I'm 25 years old and at yet another crossroads in my life. I currently live in Washington DC and am finishing up a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice. In the fall I am heading off to Penn State to start my PhD. I'm passionate about my work and focus on putting my efforts into projects that will actually analyze problems and offer solutions. While my primary research concerns the connections between the child welfare system and future delinquency in foster care youth, I have broad interests in the field and have successfully published in other areas. I am trying harder these days to be more than an academic, to be a better friend to the important people in my life and to be treat myself a little better too. I've been through good times and bad times and I am sure that I have more of both to come. I believe that you can't go through every day expecting life to be perfect or that everything is going to go wrong. I struggle with my health and being myself and not my fibromyalgia (a chronic debilitating pain/fatigue disease). I look for grace where I can find it, and pray to keep my faith strong. There's a country song (I'm a native Texan and still wannabe cowgirl) that says "Life's a dance you learn as you go," and I like to think that every day is another chance to turn up the music and try to overcome these two left feet of mine. I have a love/hate relationship with livejournal. There are times in my life when I am much more active in keeping up with it than others. I last updated this profile page on: April 15, 2008. | |
